WIPO Patent Application WO/2016/068300
Publication date: May 6, 2016

This patent application describes an emulsion-type sunscreen whose UV protection improves upon contact with water and/or sweat.

Specifically disclosed is an emulsion containing: a) 5-40% mass of a UV protection agent, i.e., a UV absorber and/or UV-scattering agent; and b) an oil phase thickening agent.

According to the inventors, once the formula is contacted with moisture, the film it forms provides higher light absorbance than it does before coming into contact with moisture.
