According to this patent, hair coloring formulas comprising oxidative dye precursors based on 2-methoxymethyl-p-phenylenediamine, or salts and mixtures, thereof typically require higher concentrations of oxidative dye precursors than those based on p-phenylene diamine or toluene-2,5-diamine to achieve the desired hair color intensity. However, by increasing the concentration of oxidative dye precursors, the end color result from hair roots to tips may not always be homogeneous.

To achieve color intensity without compromising evenness of the overall color, the inventors have found that adding oil to the oxidative dye precursor 2-methoxymethyl-p-phenylenediamine, or its salts or mixtures thereof, reduces the concentration of oxidative dye precursor required to achieve the desired hair color intensity and evenness of application.

Specifically, the disclosed hair color composition includes one or more oxidizing agents; one or more alkalizing agents; one or more oxidative dye precursors selected from 2-methoxymethyl-p-phenylenediamine, its cosmetically acceptable salts and mixtures thereof; and one or more oils, comprising more than 20% w/w of the total formula.
