Emulsions made of monoesters and polymers: L’Oréal discloses interesting oil-in-water cosmetic emulsions consisting of monoesters and polymers. These compositions contain at least a monoester of polyethylene glycol and fatty acid and at least a polymer comprised of an unsaturated ethylene monomer and a sulfonic group. The composition contains about 0.5% surfactants and it has a very good stability, even in the presence of amino acids. It is used for the care, treatment or cleaning of skin, lips and/or hair, particularly for the care of dry skin and/or dry lips. An example is shown in Formula 1.

Antiaging compositions: Maibach et al. describe topical formulations containing bases for treating skin aging. A composition and method are provided for alleviating the dermatological signs of intrinsic and extrinsic aging.

These topical formulations contain a cosmeceutically active base. They provide a pH in the range 8.0-13.0 at the skin surface. These formulations are applied to the skin in order to prevent or treat agingrelated skin conditions such as wrinkles, dry skin, age spots, sun damage (particularly UV radiation-induced oxidative stress), blemishes, hyperpigmented skin, age spots, increased skin thickness, loss of skin elasticity and collagen content, and dry skin. The cosmeceutically active base may be an inorganic base, such as an inorganic hydroxide, an inorganic oxide, or a metal salt of a weak acid. On the other hand, it may be an organic base, particularly a nitrogenous base such as may be selected from primary amines, secondary amines, tertiary amines, amides, oximes, nitrites, aromatic and non-aromatic nitrogen-containing heterocycles, urea, and mixtures thereof.
