Antimicrobial peptide microspheres
US Patent 8227406
Publication date: July 24, 2012
Assignee: Dermagen AB

The present invention relates to an antimicrobial peptide comprising a first set of amino acid residues with 2 to 36 amino acid residues or analogues thereof, linked to the amino or carboxyterminal end a second set comprising from 3 to 8 hydrophobic amino acid residues or analogues thereof, wherein said peptide has antimicrobial activity. Such an antimicrobial/pharmaceutical composition may be in the form of biodegradable microspheres and used in polymers, textiles or the like to create antibacterial surfaces for cosmetics and personal care products, i.e., soap, shampoos, toothpaste, anti-acne treatments, sun creams, etc., among others.

Biocompatible and biodegradable polymers from renewable natural polyphenols
US Patent Application 20120184682
Publication date: July 19, 2012
Assignee: Innovotech, LLC

This invention describes the use of resveratrol and curcumin, representatives of naturally occurring polyphenols, in their native form, after hydrogenation, and as their respective allyl derivatives, individually, in combination with themselves and other commercial monomers, to make representative varieties of polymers, e.g., polycarbonates, polyurethanes, co-polymers and biodegradable polymers. The polymers of the present invention are suitable for use as ingredients in formulations for personal care products, nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals; as excipients in drug formulations; and for drug delivery purposes, among other uses.
