The present invention relates to thiol/disulphide azo quinolinium compounds for dyeing keratin fibres. It is a known practice to dye keratin fibres, and in particular human keratin fibres such as the hair, with dye compositions containing direct dyes. These compounds are colored or coloring molecules which have an affinity for the fibres.

It is known practice, for example, to use direct dyes of the nitrobenzene type, anthraquinone dyes, nitropyridine dyes, or dyes of the azo, xanthene, acridine, azine or triarylmethane type. These dyes are normally applied to the fibres, optionally in the presence of an oxidizing agent, if it is desired to obtain a simultaneous lightening effect on the fibres. Once the leave-on time has elapsed, the fibres are rinsed, optionally washed and dried. The colorings, which result from the use of direct dyes, are temporary or semi-permanent colorings since the nature of the interactions which bind the direct dyes to the keratin fibre, and their desorption from the surface and/or from the core of the fibre, are responsible for their weak dyeing power and their relatively poor resistance to washing and perspiration.

In order to increase the fastness of direct colourings, it is known practice to use disulphide dyes. However, some disulphide dyes have performance levels that are insufficient in particular in terms of selectivity, uptake, stability or resistance to outside attacks such as bad weather, shampooing operations, light or sweat, which brings about a change in color over time. Color change is a particularly embarrassing problem when it occurs after shampooing and/or exposure to light.

The aim of the present invention is therefore to provide disulphide or thiol dyes that do not have the drawbacks of existing direct dyes. In particular, one of the aims of the present invention is to provide dyes which make it possible to obtain natural shades which are resistant to outside attacks and which do not change color over time. This aim is achieved with the present invention, a subject of which is a process for dyeing keratin materials, in particular human keratin materials such as the hair, which comprises applying, to the keratin materials, a dye composition comprising, in a suitable cosmetic medium, at least one disulphide or thiol azo quinolinium dye and also the addition salts thereof with an organic or mineral acid, and the solvates, hydrates, tautomers and optical and geometrical isomers thereof.

The present invention concerns a composition for the permanent shaping of human hair used both for the permanent waving of human hair with a waving effect as well as for the straightening of either naturally or chemically curled hair.

It is generally known that permanent waving is carried out in two steps, the reductive splitting of the cysteine disulfide bonds in the hair by a reducing agent, and the subsequent neutralization by application of an oxidizing agent, whereby the cysteine disulfide bonds are restored. The reducing agent still most frequently used today is thioglycolic acid, also in form of the salts thereof, in particular its ammonium salt, although numerous other thio compounds have been proposed for this purpose, which, however, mostly did not succeed.

The compositions containing thioglycollates are customarily applied at a pH 7–10, specifically 8.5 and 9.5. Such compositions vary in their waving and/or straightening performance and, therefore, there is still need for further improvement. The present invention also relates to the associated method for caring for and/or making up keratinous substances. Cosmetic products in the foam form, also known as whipped compositions, exhibit a light and aerated texture. This novel texture renders them particularly pleasant to use, due especially to their particular feel, and is therefore highly appreciated by consumers. However, such compositions have to be stored at low temperature in a refrigerated environment in order to retain their texture. This is because, above 30°C, whipped compositions become unstable, in other words they lose their texture.

Cosmetic preparations, in particular hair conditioners, contain at least one imidazoline derivative including at least two long fat groups, and at least two ester oils. The following detailed description of the invention is merely exemplary in nature and is not intended to limit the invention or the application and uses of the invention. Furthermore, there is no intention to be bound by any theory presented in the preceding background of the invention or the following detailed description of the invention. Surprisingly, it has been found that cationic imidazolines of formula Ia, in particular those that have a residue R chain length of at least 20 carbon atoms, and particularly preferably 21 carbon atoms, in combination with at least two cosmetic ester oils, satisfy in outstanding fashion the objects discussed previously for hair care-providing compositions.

In a preferred embodiment, at least one further cationic compound is contained. This further cationic compound is selected from the cationic imidazolines of formula Ib having a residue R chain length from 8 to 18 carbon atoms, the esterquats, the cationic compounds of formula (Tkat2), or the amidoamines and/or the quaternized amidoamines or the cationic polymeric compounds. The obligatorily present ester oils are particularly preferably selected from the esters of carbonic acid with fatty alcohols, in particular selected from the symmetrical esters of carbonic acid with fatty alcohols and/or from the esters of fatty acids with fatty alcohols and/or an ester oil of the structural formula (D4-II). The embodiments preferred according to the present invention contain at least one physiologically acceptable cosmetic carrier and furthermore contain the following ingredients as presented in the respective embodiment. In no case, however, is a silicone contained.
