The eyes are an extraordinarily important cosmetic and functional unit. They have been described as the mirror of the soul and represent the only source of visual input humans have with the external world. The eyes also provide a picture of the general health of the individual, appearing clear and sparkling during times of wellness, but also appearing tired and drawn in illness. Emotions are also most poignantly expressed by peering into the eyes. Tears represent sadness and anger, yet many persons also smile with their eyes. Given all of these imiporant considerations, it is no surprise that the eyes are given considerable attention through the use of eye-care products and color cosmetic, as well as through the development of surgical producedured designed to resotre a youthful appearance to the eye area.
