Shea Butter Refinery Opens in North Carolina

Vertellus Performance Materials Inc., a division of Vertellus Specialties, has opened a shea butter and shea butter-derivative refinery and manufacturing operation. The facility will be located in Greensboro, N.C., USA, and will produce Naturechem SHEA-Refined and Naturechem SHEA-UR (unrefined), vegetable-based emollients obtained from pressing African Butyrospermum parkii (shea) seeds.

"Our hydrocarbon-free refining process meets the demands of our customers for environmentally-friendly process, naturally-derived cosmetic ingredients," said Steven Rogers, sales and marketing manager for the company, in a recent press release.
