Title: Unipex Strengthens Natural Offering with Fytokem Acquisition
  • Article

Unipex Group has announced plans to acquire Fytokem Products Inc. This is Unipex's second acquisition in 2009, following its purchase of Codibel Distribution in March.

Fytokem specializes in the discovery and commercialization of extracts, bioactive molecules and phytochemicals used as ingredients in personal care, nutraceutical, pharmaceutical and bio-industrial products. Fytokem reportedly has been studying the unique properties associated with plants native to the prairies and forests of Northern Canada since 1994.

Fytokem has overseen the production, research and development of bioactive and phytochemical ingredients commercialized by Unipex Innovations under the Tyrostat and Canadian Willowherb brands since 2002.

According to Unipex, consumers increasingly are seeking natural products, and this acquisition gives the company a stronger presence in the natural ingredient market. No changes to either Fytokem’s facilities or current activities are planned.
