Cosmetics & Toiletries welcomes Xiao Wu, PhD, research fellow at the College of Pharmacy, University of Michigan, to the Scientific Advisory Board. Wu earned her bachelor's degree in pharmacy from Peking University, China, in 2003, and her doctorate in pharmacy and pharmacology from the University of Bath, UK, in 2008. She also worked at the college of pharmacy at the University of Kentucky for her postdoctorate position (2008–2009).

Wu is a member of the Controlled Release Society and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. She was awarded Best Poster Prize at the Annual Meeting of Skin Forum, Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, in 2006, among other awards. Her research interests and expertise relate to transdermal and topical drug delivery, including work on topical bioavailability, percutaneous diffusion, nano-scaled delivery systems, the delivery of drugs to different strata of skin layers, risk assessment for exposure to nanoparticulate materials, and preparation of nanoparticles and microencapsulation of biomacromolecular therapeutics, among others.

"We're privileged to add Xiao to our board," said Rachel Grabenhofer, editor, Cosmetics & Toiletries. "Her wealth of experience on skin penetration and ingredient delivery aligns nicely with current work in cosmetics R&D to design active ingredients for skin benefits. Further, her pharmacological view of the cosmetic industry will lend interesting new insights on the content we develop."

"I am very honored to be invited to join your scientific advisory board," wrote Wu. "I think serving on the board would broaden my perspective in my area of scientific expertise."
