PCPC Publishes Compilation of US Cosmetic Ingredients

The Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) has published the first edition of the Compilation of Ingredients Used in Cosmetics in the United States (CIUCUS). This publication represents the first reference for ingredients that have been reported to the US Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Voluntary Cosmetics Registration Program (VCRP).

According to the PCPC, the CIUCUS is the most accurate and complete publication available that references ingredients used in products sold in the United States. PCPC created CIUCUS as a companion to the International Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary (ICID), a comprehensive international reference of descriptive and technical information about substances that have been identified as potential cosmetic ingredients. While the ICID is a useful reference for product formulators, regulators, physicians, raw material suppliers, and consumers, it does not include actual ingredient usage data.

CIUCUS provides the frequency of use information for INCI names based on the VCRP database. More information on the compilation can be found at the PCPC's Bookstore.
