Reed Exhibitions, the organizers of in-cosmetics Asia, have announced that registration to the largest show in its history is now open. In addition, the educational program has been released, including topics such as hair care, naturals, regulation and more.

Reed Exhibitions, organizers of in-cosmetics Asia, announced that up to 300 exhibitors are expected for the 2012 event (November 6–8), making it the largest in-cosmetics Asia event to date.

Key highlights include the return of the Innovation Zone, designed to provide visitors an overview of the most recent industry launches and allow R&D professionals to test new cutting-edge formulations. Further, industry experts will convey their knowledge with a diverse and comprehensive line-up of five workshops covering regulations, hair care, basic and advanced formulations, and natural and organics. 

In the Marketing Trend sessions, visitors will also be able to gain the latest information in product development and formulation techniques during the Innovation Seminars. Celebrating innovation, Cosmetics & Toiletries will present the first Cosmetics & Toiletries R&D Awards—Asia. After years of success in Europe, Cosmetics & Toiletries, in collaboration with Reed Exhibitions, expanded its R&D awards program to the booming Asian market.

"Our R&D Awards aim to recognize compelling innovation in raw material and finished cosmetic product development," explained Rachel Grabenhofer, editor, Cosmetics & Toiletries. "They were a big hit in Paris, Milan and Barcelona, and with much of the industry's growth focused in the East, it makes sense to expand our program in parallel; to recognize the same ingenuity in launches targeted to this region."

She explained that the Asia awards are unique in that they will honor one new raw material and one new finished product launched specifically for the Asian market. In contrast, the awards presented in Europe will maintain their international focus.

Suppliers scheduled to exhibit include BASF (Hong Kong), Bronson & Jacobs (Thailand), Croda (Singapore), DSM (Singapore) and Evonik (Germany), all of which exhibited previously. In addition, first-time exhibitors include Emery Oleochemicals (Malaysia), Natural Sourcing (USA) and Toyo Sugar Refining Co. Ltd (Japan).

Visitors who register for the show, held in Bangkok, before October 29 will receive a number of benefits, including free fast-track entry to the exhibition as well as a $30 discount off all educational workshops.

A dedicated half-day Regulations Workshop at in-cosmetics Asia will aim to guide manufacturers through the most recent developments and how they will be affected, both now and in the future. Annelie Struessman, PhD, technical director of CONUSBAT, will lead the first session, titled, "EU: Preparation for the Regulation Implementation." This will provide visitors with technical information on the regulations that are set to replace the European Cosmetic Directive in 2013. 

Wendell Wei of China Gate will assist manufacturers at staying on top of the Chinese cosmetics market, as he hosts "China Focus: What is New?" Considering the key hurdles in registering products, Wei’s session will detail requirements for registration, the regulatory agencies involved and their responsibilities–as well as what to expect from upcoming changes.Confusion continues to reign over the latest Asian regulations ,and Alain Khaiat, PhD, of Seers Consulting will address this in "ASEAN–Korea: Overview of Changes." Khaiat’s session will be supported by a presentation from Le Chau Giang from Johnson & Johnson. Giang will explore regulatory strategies that raw material suppliers, as well as product manufacturers, can follow in order to enter or innovate in Asia.

This year’s in-cosmetics Asia  will also host a workshop dedicated to the hair care. The workshop will provide attendees with the latest information on innovative topics such as hair physiology, from Vaishali Gode, PhD, of Marico and hair care sensory evaluation, led by Meei-Lih Lin, PhD, at P&G. With the announcement from its new L’Oréal Hair Research Centre that it is to launch a ingredient to awaken dormant hair and enhance hair density, L’Oréal’s Umesh Padke will host an session on the latest Trends in hair care. The rest of the workshop will cover an array of updates from leading lights within the hair care sector, including "What’s New in Hair Styling" from Chang Wang, PhD, of DSM; "What’s New in Hair Colouring" from Sensient and "What’s New in Hair Conditioning," hosted by Christina He of Lubrizol.

The event will host two dedicated formulation workshops: The Basic Formulation Workshop and The Advanced Formulation Workshop, both run by Luigi Rigano, PhD. The Basic Formulation Workshop will discuss the key steps of formulation strategy in the development of a new product. The workshop will include a cosmetic introduction, covering functions, to ingredients categories and selection–finally moving on to the key steps in formulation strategy for new product development. The Advanced Formulation Workshop will take discussions up will present attendees with a series of formulation options and their respective hurdles and follow procedural steps on how to become a self-styled cosmetic formula designer. The workshop will conclude with evaluation discussions and the sharing of the sensory approach between the formulator, marketing team and the consumer.

New to the event's educational program is The Interactive Natural and Organic Workshop. During this hands-on workshop, run by Barbara Olioso, PhD, of Organatural Cosmetic Developments, attendees will create a natural product, while discussing the issues and challenges encountered along the way. Exhibition delegates will be encouraged to obtain "hero" ingredients from around the show, which will then be brought together during the session, with a select few taken through to creation. Olioso will lead discussions on the different possibilities, choices and compromises that come with creating a natural product.
