Paraben-free Preservation

Inolex Chemical Company has introduced a paraben-free preservative for personal care products. Phenostat (INCI: Caprylhydroxamic Acid (and) Phenoxyethanol (and) Methylpropanediol) is a blend that provides broad spectrum coverage and offers an alternative to traditional preservative blends. According to the company, the preservative performs at a neutral pH and is compatible with most cosmetic ingredients.
The ingredient: is recommended for use at 0.8–1.2% w/w in emulsions and anhydrous and surfactant systems, including lotions, creams, shower gels and makeup • can be added to the water phase at ambient or high temperatures • can be added after emulsification • is not recommended for lengthy exposure to elevated temperatures • appears as a white to pale yellow liquid at room temperature and clear above room temperature • has a mild, characteristic odor.
