Arch Personal Care Products introduces a viscosity builder specifically developed for cosmetic and personal care applications. ViscUp EZ (INCI: Sodium acrylate/sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer (and) hydrogenated polydecene (and) sorbitan laurate (and) trideceth-6) is an anionic acrylic polymer dispersed into an emollient.
The ingredient is designed to thicken aqueous solutions and stable o/w emulsions. According to the company, the polymer is both efficient and effective at building viscosity. It reports that in skin care formulations, the polymer has a smooth, silky feel without any tackiness.
The company conducted a panel screening study where a formulation containing ViscUp EZ was compared to two acrylic-polymer based formulations. It was reported that panelists found the polymer to have easier spreading and longer play time during application in addition to having the least tacky after-feel in comparison to the two other formulations.
