At the Florida chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists' (FLSCC) Sunscreen Symposium, Evonik will debut its PEG-free, o/w emulsifier for challenging fluid emulsions such as modern sun care formulations. TEGO Care PBS 6 (INCI: Polyglyceryl-6 Stearate (and) Polyglyceryl-6 Behenate) is a polyglyceryl-based emulsifier that is 100% derived from renewable resources.
The emulsifier was debuted at the event for its ability to stabilize modern sun care formulations containing a high load of water-soluble UV filters and other challenging ingredients. Stability tests including different raw materials like water soluble UV filters, insect repellents and natural preservatives have been performed. All these tests have confirmed that the ingredient was an effective emulsifier for low-viscous sun care lotions and sprays.In addition to sun care, the emulsifier can also be formulated into insect repellent applications, facial serums for daily SPF protection or natural lotions.
The emulsifier is approved as natural under NATRUE and ECOCERT. In addition, it is registered by China's State Food and Drug Administration. Beside its stabilization capacities, this new emulsifier provides moisturizing properties as proven in an in vivo study.
