Abstract: TRI-K has launched a vegetable-based alternative to animal keratin to increase hair strength and elasticity for reduced breakage in hair.

TRI-K has launched a vegetable-based alternative to animal keratin to increase hair strength and elasticity for reduced breakage in hair. Fision KeraVeg18 (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Wheat Amino Acids (and) Soy Amino Acids (and) Arginine HCl (and) Serine (and) Threonine) combines wheat and soy amino acids with additional pure amino acids (of vegetable fermentation origin) to mimic the functional ratios in human hair amino acids.

The high level of cysteine naturally present in wheat and the high ration of amine functional amino acids, especially lysine, in soy make the combination particularly suitable to approximate natural keratin. Additionally, inclusion of substantial amounts of beta-hydroxy amino acids, serine and threonine are necessary to bring the complement of 18 amino acids to form a non-animal vegetable keratin amino acid mixture.

In addition to strengthening hair, the complex helps protect hair from harsh salon processes, improves combability and reduces damage from excess force used against hair. It also provides antioxidant protection and may help limit oxidative damage to the hair and scalp.

Comparison studies were conducted on this vegetable-derived mixture vs. hydrolyzed animal keratin. The studies included amino acid comparison, hair strength, hair elasticity, wet and dry combing and a consumer study. Based on this testing, this alternative complex has properties comparable to, or in some cases better than, hydrolyzed animal keratin and can be used in any hair care formulations as a more natural product offering.
