A new cationic homopolymer-based technology was designed to provide long-lasting conditioning to damaged hair without product buildup. Its mechanism, in situ controlled flocculation, is described here, and its capability to restore hydrophobicity to damaged hair is shown. Techniques are detailed for measuring silicone deposition, conditioning performance, hydrophobicity and buildup on hair.

The instrumental and sensorial studies described here assess the ability of a test moisturizing product, at 1% in a surfactant system, to physically improve skin moisturization and structural condition, as well as provide a consumer-perceivable sensorial benefit. Changes in skin protein content, visible skin dryness, trans-epidermal water loss, corneometry and sensorial characteristics were measured and analyzed.

Croda partnered with The Centre for Visual Computing at the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom to create the Hair Dynamics Test to measure the movement of healthy hair and compare it to the movement of damaged hair. Then, the research team at Croda set out to create a chemistry that would specifically seek to improve the movement of damaged hair by reducing inter-fiber friction.
