J&E Sozio Inc. has launched a line of fragrances that follow the US Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Design for the Environment (DfE) program, to enable personal care formulators to create hand soaps that meet eco-friendly labeling standards. The company anticipates an ingredient launch at any time, pending official DfE approval.
According to the EPA Web site, the DfE logo on a product means that a scientific review team has screened each ingredient for potential human health and environmental effects and that—based on currently available information, EPA predictive models and expert judgment—the product contains only ingredients that pose the least concern among chemicals in their class.
Further, product manufacturers that become DfE partners earn the right to use the DfE logo on recognized products since they have invested heavily in research, development and reformulation to ensure the ingredients and finished products are eco-friendly. The EPA notes that the DfE has approved the use of its logo on more than 1,500 products to date. These products are formulated with the safest possible ingredients and, according to the EPA, they have reduced the use of chemicals of concern by hundreds of millions of pounds.
J&E Sozio Inc. Cleanscents are based on 121-33-5 benzaldehyde, 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy- chemistry. According to the company, they are not mutagenic or carcinogenic, they cause no reproductive toxicity, and they are non-toxic to the respiratory functionality of mammals. In addition, the fragrances contain no phthalates and low solvents, and they require no EU allergen labeling. Finally, as noted, they are safe for the environment, as their persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic (PBT) profile verifies.
The following fragrances are available: Wintermint, Clean Linen, White Blossom, Ocean Breeze, Green Floral, Tropical Medley, Peach Melon Apple, Sassafras, Citrus Delight and Very Berry.
