Degussa AG has announced the launch of its new granulated fumed silica. Aeroperl (INCI Not Provided), in contrast to the company's Aerosil, is a mechanically stable granulate consisting of spherical particles with an average size of about 30 micormeres.
Fumed silicas, according to the company, can be used to thicken oils to gels, make emulsions more waterproof, and improve the payoff of lipsticks. Degussa specifically highlights the benefits of Aeroperl in pressed-powder production. The silica reportedly absorbs binder oil, allowing for uniform oil distribution in the production process.
