Silicone Copolymer Emulsion for Hair Moisturization

Posted: November 27, 2012

Dow Corning has launched a silicone hair moisturizer for premium shampoos, rinse-off conditioners and leave-in conditioners. In addition to moisturization, Dow Corning CE-8411 Smooth Plus Emulsion (INCI: Bis-Diisopropanolamino-PG-Propyl Dimethicone/Bis-Isobutyl PEG-14 Copolymer) also imparts shine and protection from color fade.

The technology is based on a (AB)n silicone copolymer that delivers effective deposition to provide a moisturizing feel with increased slipperiness, smoothness and flexibility. In hair care products, the emulsions was shown to have conditioning effects on both wet and dry hair along with improved shine and color protection.

This milky white, nonionic emulsion is easy to incorporate into conditioners and shampoos. It is recommended to add the emulsion at the end of production, at temperatures below 40C with continuous mixing. Recommended use levels are 1-5% for hair care formulations.
