Flexible, Durable Silicone Resin

Dow Corning has introduced a silicone resin that forms a flexible, durable film that is resistant to wash-off and rub-off, allowing formulators to create long-lasting, comfortable color cosmetics. DC MQ-1640 Flake Resin (INCI: Trimethylsiloxy silicate (and) and Polypropylsilsesquioxane) is a blend of two silicone resins that easily spreads to a breathable, water-repellent film.

According to the company, consumers desire color cosmetics that have an extended wear and are also comfortable on skin. This film former is based on a blend of trimethylsiloxy silicate (MQ) and polypropylsilsesquioxane (T propyl) silicone resins in flake form. The MQ silicone resin forms a harder, more brittle film, while the T propyl component contributes a tacky, softer film with enhanced organic compatibility.

The silicone resin was developed for use in a range of color cosmetics as well as skin care and sun care products. It can potentially improve SPF in sunscreens due its compatibility with sunscreen actives and improved wash-off resistance. The resin reportedly allows formulators to select their own carrier, as it is 100% active and solvent-free. Finally, it is compatible with a variety of organic and silicone materials.
