Title: Natural Active for Inflammation Control
  • Article

Chemisches Laboratorium Dr. Kurt Richter GmbH (CLR) has developed an active that helps control and reduce inflammation. SyriCalm CLR (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Phragmites Kharka Extract (and) Poria Cocos Extract) was designed to serve barrier repair and barrier maintenance functions.

In vitro, the active was shown to support cell viability while maintaining its energy level and protecting its structure as well as the skin's barrier function. The active also reportedly acts against the effects of hyperosmotic stress and photosensitivity. In addition, the company conducted in vivo testing and found the material to accelerate skin barrier repair while reducing UV-generated erythema and anti-itching benefits.

The active is supplied in a yellow-brownish, transparent liquid that has a weak characteristic odor. It is preserved with sodium benzoate and has a pH range of 3.5–7.5. The active is recommended at 3.0% in formulations for skin challenged by environmental stress, shaving, depilation or daily hygiene in products for daily protection, after-sun treatments and baby care. In these applications, the active is said to help skin recover its natural balance.
