Tetrapeptide for Neurosensitive Skin

Laboratoires Sérobiologiques has introduced a cosmeceutical tetrapeptide active for sensitive skin. Skinasensyl provides a soothing and pain-killing effect on the skin and is available in two versions. Skinasensyl LS 9749 (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) glycerin (and) coco-glucoside (and) acetyl tetrapeptide-15) is a colorless, clear liquid  with weak odor whereas Skinasensyl PW LS 9852 (INCI: Mannitol (and) sodium citrate (and) acetyl tetrapeptide-15) is a white powder with weak odor.

Sensitive skin affects nearly 40% of the population, according to the company. An individual's sensitivity to personal care products, known as neurosensitivity, is characterized by a lower threshold of tolerance. This may be caused in part by an increase of the permeability of the stratum corneum as well as an exaggeration of the nerve response. Neurosensitive skin is characterized by normal barrier function, no inflammation and exaggeration of the nerve response to skin.

Skinasensyl is a pure tetrapeptide that is able to reduce the nerve response to external stimuli. The ingredient decreased the release of pro-inflammatory neuro-mediators including calcitonin gene related peptide, a neuro-mediator involved in pain transmission. It also induces an action mediated via the activation of the μ opioid receptor.

Therefore, the tolerance threshold of skin is increased, skin is less reactive to different stimuli and sensations of pain and discomfort are diminished. The company finds the ingredient especially useful for at-home cosmeceutical treatments that mimic dermatological treatments such as peels or microdermabrasion.

The active is recommended for sensitive skin products, anti-stress skin care, cosmeceutical ranges and male care products.
