Silab Introduces Milk Thistle for Slimming/Anti-cellulite Effect

Silab has introduced a milk thistle extract designed to produce a slimming and anti-cellulite effect. Stemsvelt (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Butylene Glycol (and) Silybum Marianum Extract) is rich in silybin, a polyphenol that has been found to reduce fat storage and limit the differentiation of adipocyte stem cells/progenitors.

Through in vitro tests, the company was able to confirm that the active prevented adipocyte stem cells/progenitors from entering the differentiation program. Specifically, preadipocyte factor-1 (Pref-1), an early marker of stem cells/progenitors that inhibits adipocyte differentiation was studied. At 0.10% on stem cells/progenitors in the course of differentiation, the active significantly maintained the synthesis of Pref-1 by 64%, thereby enabling adipocyte stem cells/progenitors to remain in the undifferentiated state. Also tested was sterol regulatory element binding protein-1c (SREBP-1c), a transcription factor that regulates the expression of lipogenesis genes. Tested at 0.10% on stem cells/progenitors during adipocyte differentiation, the active reduced the synthesis of SREBP-1c by 63% and the accumulation of lipid droplets in adipocytes by 83%. It therefore limits adipogenesis.

The active was also tested at 2% on hypoderm from human skin stimulates lipolysis and significantly reduced the volume of mature adipocytes by 25%, thereby leading to the decongestion of adipose tissue.

Tested in vivo, the milk thistle active reduced the unattractive orange peel appearance of the skin and refined the silhouette; its efficacy is optimized by the use of a massage tool. Cellulite was smoothed and the skin was visibly enhanced, firmer and more toned. SThe extract is recommended in all anti-cellulite and slimming body treatments. It is compliant with regulation in Europe, the United States, Japan and China.
