Skin Lightening Biomimetic Peptide Encapsulated in a Liposome
Posted: February 25, 2010
Unipex Innovations has launched a TGF-ß biomimetic peptide encapsulated in a liposome vehicle that is designed to brighten the skin and remove age spots. β-White (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Butylene Glycol (and) Hydrogenated Lecithin (and) Sodium Oleate (and) Oligopeptide-68 (and) Disodium EDTA) is said to inhibit tyrosinase activity, inhibit melanin synthesis, and decrease the proteins involved in the pigmentation process in vitro.
The company developed the peptide with inspiration from the roles of TGF-ß and MITF in skin pigmentation. The peptide does not act exclusively on tyrosinase, which is the enzyme primarily responsible for skin pigmentation; it also inhibits the action of the MITF cellular pathway to decrease constitutive and facultative pigmentation, allowing for a safe lightening effect.
In vitro tests of the material conducted by the company showed a reduction in melanin. In addition, a clinical study revealed that treatment of subjects' skin with the peptide resulted in clearer skin, a more uniform complexion and fewer age spots in 100% of the subjects.
The peptide is recommended: at 2.5–5% for intensive whitening; at 1–2.5% for corrective care and age spots; at 0.5–1% for lightening care and skin illumination; and at 1% if combined with an exfoliant. Product applications include: whitening care; age spot treatment; products that even the skin tone; lightening products for the hands, armpits and décolleté; antiaging products; lightening foundations and ethnic skin care.
