Brown Seaweed for Skin Lightening

Gelyma has developed a marine solution to reduce skin pigmentation. Lightoceane (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Halidrys Siloquosa Extract) is an extract of brown seaweed that is said to down-regulate skin pigmentation.

Before melanin synthesis occurs, the material reduces the release of nitric oxide, an important melanogenic mediator. During melanin synthesis, it inhibits the activity of tyrosinase and the synthesis of melanin; and after melanin synthesis, it inhibits the dendricity of melanocytes to control the transfer of melanosomes to keratinocytes.

The active also shows preventative protection by neutralizing free radicals and protecting against UV radiations. The product can be formulated into skin lightening gels and emulsions, antiaging skin care and spot treatments. Additionally, the active is said to: prevent inflammation by inhibiting both lipoxygenase and interleukin-1α, a suspect in the formation of age spots; increase cell proliferation; and protect the dermal matrix fibers against protease deterioration.

The lightening ingredient is distributed by Biosil Technologies Inc.
