Blackberry Seed Oil Antioxidant
Posted: February 12, 2013
Botanic Innovations has expanded cold-pressed seed oils to include blackberry, which is recommended for cosmetic and nutraceutical formulations. NatureFRESH Cold-Press Organic Blackberry Seed Oil (INCI: Rubus Fructicosis (Blackberry) Seed Oil) contains a high amount of antioxidants including: vitamin E, tocopherols, tocotrienols and a variety of carotenoids.
In addition, the berry oil contains both lutein and zeaxanthin, carotenoids believed to support eye health. The oil is a good source of polyunsaturated fatty acids including omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, with over 70% polyunsaturated fatty acid. It is low in saturated fat. The fatty acid profile is comprised of: stearic, 2.1%; palmitic, 3.4%; leic acid (omega 9), 15.1%; linoleic acid (omega 6), 62.7%; and linolenic acid (omega 3), 15.2%.
The company processes its oils using its proprietary NatureFRESH-Cold Press technology using low temperatures and no chemicals or synthetic solvents. This certified organic process retains the natural antioxidant activity lost through traditional processing; therefore, the oils and flours have a longer shelf life without the need for artificial preservatives.
Overwhelmed by all the disconnected literature on antioxidant technology and methodology? One book, one resource to fulfill your antioxidant needs.
Antioxidants and the Skin by Roger McMullen is the first book to offer a comprehensive account of antioxidants in personal care and addresses the cellular level of human skin. A section of the book outlines the properties of several botanical extracts important in skin care and a survey of antioxidant products in skin care formulas covering various product categories.
