Title: Borhaavia diffusa Lightening Active
  • Article

Provital aims to lighten hyperpigmentation with an extract of Borhaavia diffusa. Melavoid (INCI: Propanediol (and) Water (aqua) (and) Boerhavia Diffusa Root Extract) has dual lightening action: it prevents hyperpigmentation by working on the initial phase of melanin synthesis, and it reduces dark spots in number and intensity.

The product is obtained from the roots of punarnava (Boerhaavia diffusa), standardized in boeravinones. An in silico screening demonstrated that boeravinone B, a component of Boerhaavia diffusa, is suitable to act as a natural agonist of PPARy. This material genetically modulates melanocytes, resulting in decreased tyrosinase expression and melanin synthesis.

In vivo clinicals on a panel of Asian volunteers showed the active decreased skin pigmentation intensity, resulting in a lighter, more uniform complexion. It also reduced the number and intensity of hyperpigmentation spots of various origins.

The active is recommended at 1-3% in facial lightening treatments, facial and hand spot lightening treatments, skin lightening body milks, neck and décolletage treatments, photo-aging repair treatments, anti-aging treatments, makeup lines and deodorants. It is soluble in aqueous solutions.
