Three Extracts for Skin Whitening/Brightening

IBR Ltd. has developed a complex comprised of three of its anti-aging compounds for skin lightening and whitening. IBR Clearly Bright Complex is said to hinder multiple triggers of pigmentation in addition to inhibiting both melanin synthesis and melanocyte proliferation. The complex contains the company's IBR Phyto(flu)ene (INCI: Hydrogenated Polydecene (and) Dunaliella Salina Extract), IBR-Dormin (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Narcissus Tazetta Bulb Extract), and IBR-Snowflake (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Leucojum Aestivum Bulb Extract) ingredients.

The colorless carotenoids in the complex are extracted from carotenogenic algae (phytoene and phytofluene) and reportedly exhibit antioxidation capability against hydroxyl radicals, light absorption at the UVA and UVB range, anti-inflammatory activity, inhibitory action against collagenase formation, and skin whitening and brightening benefits. The carotenoids also reportedly protect and stabilize other sensitive active ingredients and boost their activity. The Narcissus Tazetta bulb extract in the complex slows cell proliferation to maintain young looking skin and provide better skin protection. Finally, the Leucojum aestivum bulb extract in the complex is said to slow skin aging and increase skin's natural defenses.

The company conducted in vivo tests and found that the complex reduces skin pigmentation through pathways such as: direct inhibition of melanin synthesis, direct inhibition of melanocyte proliferation, anti-inflammatory activity, antioxidant activity, superoxide dismutase boosting, and protection against both UVA and UVB radiation.

An in vivo study was done by the company to compare the skin lightening effect of a placebo cream to a cream formulated with the complex. The study found the complex to significantly whitening skin at both 42 days and 84 days.
