Corn, Soybean and Flaxseed Extract for Skin Protection

At In-Cosmetics in Milan, International Specialty Products (ISP) will introduce three vegetable-derived skin care ingredients that have been added to the Natriance line. Natriance Antioxidizer, Natriance Detoxifier and Natriance Protector are said to protect against oxidative, UV and other stresses while helping support cellular functions that may be critical to better skin.

By focusing on key cellular markers, the three ingredients reportedly help boost protection and maintenance to achieve healthy- and younger-looking skin.

Natriance Antioxidizer (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Butylene Glycol (and) Hydrolyzed Soy Protein (proposed)) uses the antioxidant powers of soybeans (Glycine max) to help preserve and invigorate key enzymes in vitro that eliminate reactive oxygen species (ROS), also known as free radicals.

This soy protein compound reportedly may be effective in helping skin reduce its DNA damage and slowing photoaging. Soy protein hydrolysate, in general, has chelating and radical scavenging properties and may help decrease lipid peroxidation, as shown in a study. Some peptides found in soy also boast potential for high antioxidant properties. Ex vivo, the soybean compound helps maintain the expression of two classes of key enzymes that support free radical scavenging.

Natriance Detoxifier (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Glycerin (and) Hydrolyzed Corn Protein (proposed)) is a corn-derived biofraction designed to minimize markers associated with biological aging, to help maintain the cleansing of useless cell proteins, to help boost collagen production and to help skin stimulate cellular rejuvenation.

In vitro and ex vivo studies conducted by the company show that treatment with the corn-derived biofraction may help skin boost its metabolic activity such as expression of proteasome proteins, elimination of damaged proteins, maintenance of collagen and protection of cells after UV stress. Moreover, these samples showed a lower expression of β-galactosidase. Visual evaluation provided further evidence of a lessening in the appearance of wrinkles with use of the corn derived biofraction.

Natriance Protector (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Glycerin (and) Linum Usitatissimum (Linseed) Seed Extract (proposed)) derived from flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum) to help optimize cellular differentiation, a process that keeps the skin elastic and moisturized. Because biological aging can lead to a slowing of metabolic activity, resulting in a decline of cell production, maintaining this all-important function is critical to skin rejuvenation.

An optimized skin barrier function requires that its many layers are replenished through terminal differentiation, a process in which cells evolve into different roles to serve specific functions. The flaxseed extract is said to boost key proteins that support the differentiation process, helping to promote better skin moisturization and elasticity. Suitable for daily wear products, this biofraction also boosts cellular cohesion, resulting in better integrity of the stratum corneum.
