Abstract: The Biotherm Water Lovers water protection program celebrated World Oceans Day on June 8, 2017, with the announcement of two new initiatives: an "ocean-friendly" sunscreen and a marine expedition.

Created in 2012, the Biotherm Waterlovers water protection program has committed to protecting ocean life by working to reduce the impact of rinse-off personal care products on the environment; for example, by removing microbeads. In relation, to celebrate this year’s World Oceans Day on June 8, 2017, Biotherm announced two new initiatives—an "ocean-friendly" sunscreen product and a marine expedition.

Waterlover Sun Milk

Biotherm's Waterlover Sun Milk was reportedly designed with the ocean in mind. It took nearly seven years to develop, underwent approx. 200 trials and involved 20 researchers. These efforts results in a new product range including eco-tested SPF filters and a 95% biodegradable base formula, to reduce the product's impact on the water environment.

“Our ambition was to create a sun milk with the least possible impact on aquatic life, proposing effective protection and meeting consumers’ expectations and needs when it comes to application and sensorial experience. Now you can protect what your love: your skin, your family’s skin and the ocean,” explained Biotherm scientific director, Caroline Nègre.

Mission Blue Expedition

For its second initiative, Biotherm will team up with Mission Blue, founded by Sylbia Earle, Ph.D., to support the expedition team's effort to document and raise awareness of the importance of marine-protected areas. The focus will be on the ancient seagrass meadows around the Balearic Islands of Formentera and Mallorca.
