Mutations in Mitochondrial DNA as Principal Aging Factor

Impaired functioning of mitochondria is a very important factor in aging. Irradiation of normal human fibroblasts with UV was shown to increase the frequency of mutations in the mitochondrial DNA. Treatment of the fibroblast culture with a nanoemulsion containing coenzyme Q10 and vitamin E acetate was found to protect the mitochondrial DNA against UV-induced mutations.
