Amaranth, Quinoa and Khoresan Wheat for Skin, Hair

Symrise has expanded its Extrapone botanical extract line with eight new grain varieties for a total of 11, which are marketed as "healthy grains" for use in skin care and hair care products. 

Previously, the company offered extracts of oat (Actipone Oats (INCI: Propylene Glycol (and) Water (aqua) (and) Avena Sativa (Oat) Straw Extract (and) Lactic Acid), wheat (Extrapone Wheat GW (INCI: Glycerin (and) Water (aqua) PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil (and) Triticum Vulgare (Wheat)  Bran Extract (and) Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil), and white rice (Extrapone White Rice GW (INCI: Glycerin (and) Water (aqua) (and) PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil (and) Oryza Sativa (Rice) Germ Oil (and) Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract).

However, it has shifted its focus to what it terms "old, forgotten supergrains," with the addition of such grains as amaranth (Extrapone Amaranth GW (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Glycerin (and) Amaranthus Cruentus Seed Extract (and) Xanthan Gum), a millennia-old plant cultivated by the Aztecs; quinoa (Extrapone Quinoa GW (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Glycerin (and) Chenododium Quinoa Seed Extract), a nutritional staple of the Inca civilization; and khoresan wheat (Extrapone Kamut GW (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Glycerin (and) Hydrogenated Wheat Starch), a grain similar to wheat, originating from Egypt.

In addition, the company has introduced: black rice (Actipone Black Rice GW (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Glycerin (and) Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract), millet (Extrapone Millet GW (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Glycerin (and) Panicum Miliaceum (Millet) Seed Extract (and) Maltodextrin), barley (Extrapone Barley GW (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Glycerin (and) Hordeum Vulgare Seed Extract), rye (Extrapone Rye GW (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Glycerin (and) Secale Cereale (Rye) Seed Extract (and) Maltodextrin), and spelt (Extrapone Spelt GW (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Glycerin (and) Hydrolyzed Spelt Starch) to its portfolio.

According to the company, quinoa, amaranth and spelt are not only valued for their nurturing, skin-rejuvenating and elasticity-enhancing qualities, but also are equated with the essence of healthy and natural living.
