Psychologist Launches Skin Line with Mood-enhancing Ingredients

Linda Papadopoulos, a psychologist based in London, has launched a skin care line that claims to use mood-enhancing ingredients to reduce wrinkles. ΨDerma is said to reduce stress with actives, thereby improving skin.

Each of the products in the ΨDerma range has a blend of ingredients combining vitamins, essential oils, active ingredients and Nootropics (derived from the Greek word ‘noos’ or mind and ‘tropein’ meaning to bend/turn). These are smart nutrients that can boost memory, reduce stress and even help cognitive ability. The cosmetic range reportedly combines two independent but linked symbiotic concepts to help achieve the feeling of health.

The line is formulated with the amino acid tyrosine to regulate mood and to alleviate the physical symptoms of stress. Phytokeratin is also incorporated to stimulate epidermal cells, thus stimulating the production of mood-enhancing beta-endorphins. Nootropics are included in the line to boost memory, help cognitive ability and reduce stress.

Vitacell is a biotechnological product isolated and purified from yeast. According to the company, it has been shown to stimulate the ability of skin cells to biosynthesize and regenerate ATP. It helps the skin recover its energy potential similar to the potential of young skin.

Flavocon, an extract of Larix sibirica wood, is incorporated to stimulate collagen and enhance its thermal stability. Flavocon has a natural antiredness action combined with antibacterial ability. Idebenone is used for its coenzyme Q10 and antioxidant capacity. The material has also been shown to promote information transfer across the corpus callosum, the membrane separating the right and left brain hemispheres. Idebenone increases nerve growth factor (NGF) and can boost production of the neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine, thus creating feeling healthy and well being, and reducing stress.

White hibiscus is considered to have many medical properties and is used widely in Indian pharmacies. It contains polysaccharides and flavonoids, known to soothe and reduce redness of the skin while providing moisturization. Cooling, soothing and desensitizing are the prime benefits of using this extract.

Inulin is a pre-biotic designed for skin application. It helps to protect the skin’s natural defense mechanism by helping to make the friendly organisms stronger and grow faster. Bio-Inulin is a gluco-oligosaccharide and is also used as a food prebiotic.

Vitamin D is necessary for the absorption of calcium and phosphate in the human body. Vitamin D metabolites not only contribute to calcium flux but also boost cell metabolism. The line also incorporates vitamin E, C and A.

The line debuted in the UK on QVC.
