Natural Biopolymer for Antiaging Formulations

KitoZyme has introduced a biopolymer that smoothes, firms and brightens skin. KiOsmetine-CG 125 (INCI: Chitin (and) beta-glucan) is a high-purity, natural biopolymer comprising two types of polysaccharide. Chitin is made of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine units while beta (1,3)-glucan is made of D-glucose units.

The biopolymer is said to promote enhanced proliferation of keratinocytes and fibroblasts by stimulating the production of neo-collagen. This restores the balance between damaged collagen and collagen renewal. The ingredient also forms a non-occlusive barrier that limits water loss through evaporation. This water-binding biopolymer reportedly is capable of retaining 10 times its own weight in water.

Protection from environmental damage is also a benefit of the biopolymer. It shields the skin from external factors that cause aging and damage by forming a thin film that absorbs harmful substances including heavy metals, pollution and free radicals resulting from UV exposure. Through research, the company found the biopolymer to enhance skin metabolic and defense performance while stimulating keratinocytes and Langerhans cells, strengthening the interface between the dermis and the epidermis. Antiaging benefits include: long-term moisturization, skin rejuvenation, intensive moisturization, skin protection and skin barrier function strenghtening. In addition, the company has found the ingredient to provide a nice afterfeel and serve as a thickener.

The ingredient is recommended for formulation into day cream, baby care, aftershave, foundation, night cream, body lotion, sun protection, color cosmetics, bust-firming cream, hand cream, anti-acne lotion and lip care. For more information, visit www.kitozyme.com.
