Facial pigmentation increases with age and sun exposure, and represents an aesthetic problem for many. Multiple strategies are required for the cosmetic treatment of such imperfections, including accelerating skin renewal, inhibiting free radicals, providing photoprotection, prohibiting melanin granule formation and transfer, reducing pigmentation with sequestering agents, and enhancing skin penetration. These are described here.

Inorganic UV filters must be distributed evenly to ensure sun protection. Further, they can present challenges of a pasty consistency and undesirable opacity when applied to skin. This paper therefore describes strategies using micronized titanium dioxide with different coatings to optimize its dispersion and protective benefits while improving processing and aesthetics.

Brightenyl is the very first cosmetic active ingredient that is activated by a new functional layer of the human skin: the stratum microbium. This new layer acts as an active living veil converting Brightenyl in two molecules, which act on seven biological targets to obtain a perfect skin complexion.

Hurdle technology is a holistic formulation approach that assesses the impact of multiple factors on the ability of a formulation to support microbial growth. A particular challenge has been the identification of ingredients that can be used in the hurdle technology approach for solutions and emulsions in non-woven substrates, and INOLEX has created two ingredients to help formulators address this need.

How can hydration be considered a trend, when it never went away? It is not so much about the act of hydrating so much as it is “what” and “how” hydration is being delivered. From gel-crème textures to next-generation hyaluronic acid and electrolytes, hydration has taken front and center.

The non-enzymatic process of glycation affects macromolecules in the skin, causing premature aging especially under diabetic, xerotic and elderly conditions. As the present research describes, a mechanism of deglycation can be used to target these conditions using an imidazole derivate. Here, in vitro and in vivo assays on diabetic, xerotic and elderly panels show statistically significant positive results.
