Over 600 companies will exhibit at in-cosmetics 2013, providing ample opportunities to do business and network with thousands of industry professionals.
The global personal care industry remains competitive despite the continued gloomy economic climate, with exports from the European market alone topping €14.2 billion in 2011. Trends are now traversing regions as brands invest in countries across Asia, impacting new product development strategy.
With so much happening at an international scale, in-cosmetics 2013 (April 16-18, Paris Expo Porte de Versailles) is set to make an exciting return with two brand new zones and more seminars and presentations than ever before. The show will welcome over 600 exhibitors, providing ample opportunities to do business and network with thousands of industry professionals. Confirmed exhibitors already include major industry players such as Croda, DSM, Lubrizol and Merck, as well as over 30 first-time exhibitors from countries—including Greece, Israel, Taiwan and Turkey.
Water in the Spotlight
This year, the show’s theme is H20, which is particularly poignant as 2013 is the UN's International Year of Water Cooperation. In today’s age, where the world’s politicians are debating water management practices, the personal care industry cannot ignore the impetus to examine the role water plays in the production of cosmetics products.
A special programme dedicated to H20 will see speakers from brands such as L’Oréal and P&G participate in two panel discussions exploring water and biology for skin care product formulation and the reduction of the industry’s water footprint. An H20 trail will also clearly signpost the exhibitors with H20 projects on their stands so that visitors can explore the latest ingredient launches, formulations and product concepts that use water innovatively.
Brand New Targeted Zones
Two new zones will feature at in-cosmetics 2013. The Fragrance in Cosmetics Zone, in partnership with the Société Française des Parfumeurs (SFP), will provide an interactive platform where visitors can discover exhibitors’ new and exciting scent and ingredient launches. A special half-day session as part of the Marketing Trends Programme will also explore the technical side of incorporating fragrance into cosmetics and personal products. Topics will include the use of synthetic vs. natural ingredients, formulation and technical challenges and consumer trends.
Regulatory frameworks and testing criteria are becoming increasingly more complex, and differ from region to region. The new Testing and Regulation Zone puts suppliers operating in these arenas clearly on the map. Visitors will be able to talk to experts about the latest testing technologies and gain advice on regulatory issues to ensure their products meet standards in terms of quality, efficacy, safety and claim validation. To support the zone, CONUSBAT will also run a one-day regulatory workshop on Worldwide Regulatory Affairs.
“The 2013 show is packed full of new content to keep visitors up-to-date with all the latest ingredient launches, trends and insights,” said Lucy Gillam, Event Director, in-cosmetics. “We’re looking forward to opening the doors in April to what we expect to be a record-breaking show.”
Innovation is inherent to the cosmetics industry, with major cosmetics companies reformulating or replacing 25% of their products each year. To help inspire new product development, more seminars and presentations than ever before will be offered as part of the Educational Programme.
Workshops have been designed to give formulators, brand managers and R&D professionals the tools they need to create quality personal care products.
As well as the regulatory workshop, Perry Romanowski of Brains Publishing will share techniques for formulators solving real-world problems during his "Cosmetic Formulation Optimisation" workshop. Judi Beerling of Organic Monitor will also address the buoyant natural ingredients market, offering practical advice in her workshop "Formulating Using Green Ingredients," while those interested in the world of microorganisms and preservatives can gain valuable insights during the "Cosmetic Microbioloy"session organized by Teknoscienze.
Anti-aging remains a major concern for consumers as they seek to delay the onset of visible aging. Those wishing to find out more can learn about the latest ingredient trends, cutaneous aging, and how Asian and Caucasian skin differ in the "Anti-Ageing" workshop organized by Alain Khaiat—with speakers from companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Kline & Company and L’Oréal. CEC Editore has also organized a "Hair Science in Cosmetics Research" workshop that investigates the latest developments and trends in the field of hair cosmetology.
The cosmetics industry’s hot topics will aslo be under the microscope during the free-to-attend Marketing Trends program. Presentations will cover trends ranging from what we can expect to see eminate from Asia and growth models to help minimize the impact of the economic recession to marketing to the over 50s, and what’s on the horizon for 2020.
Exhibitors will also be putting innovation in the spotlight as they present their latest ingredient launches during the Innovation Seminars. Providing product expertise and knowledge first-hand, the seminars will tackle some of the industry’s biggest trends, offering R&D professionals formulation techniques and technologies to create appealing product concepts.
Focus on Innovation
The always-popular Innovation Zone will also make its return. Featuring exhibitors’ ingredient launches from the six months leading up to the event, it aims to inspire new product development. Three companies will be crowned during an award ceremony for the Innovation Zone Best Ingredient Award.
Mintel Beauty and Personal Care analysts will also run daily live demonstrations on the zone, giving visitors the opportunity to touch, test and taste the latest worldwide product launches featuring H20—including beauty drinks, skin care, hair care and color cosmetics formulated with water from unique sources, and mix-it-yourself products that require the addition of water.
Other awards presented at the show include the the Lifetime Achievement Award, bestowed upon an individual for their outstanding dedication and contribution to the personal care and cosmetics industry, and Cosmetics & Toiletries magazine is also presenting awards in two categories, Best New Ingredient and Most Creative Application.
